Zoodles are the newest health food craze and it’s a great one to catch onto if your looking to make some healthy changes to your current diet.
Zoodles got their name from the original noodle shaped vegetable, the zucchini but have expanded into numerous other vegetable and fruit varieties such as sweet potato, cucumber, squash, beets, apples and pears.
Why use them?
Zoodles help increase not only your daily fiber intake versus the standard pasta but are also chalk full of antioxidants, phytonutrients and essential vitamins and minerals. They make a great substitute for those who are watching their carbohydrates or are allergic to wheat/gluten pasta options. I am always game for finding creative ways to add more vegetables into your diet and these spiralized babies are just the thing to upgrade your diet.
How to use:
- Replace any pasta or rice in a recipe with your choice of zoodle.
- Add them on top of burgers or sandwiches.
- Drop them in soups.
- Stuff them in burritos or wraps.
- Top your favorite pizza or flatbread.
- Spruce up your morning toast by adding it on top.
Raw or Cooked?
You can cook them or leave them raw depending on the recipe and the type of produce you pick.
To cook, simply heat up on a pan for a few minutes with olive oil or bake in the oven if the recipe calls for it.
